I first posted this poem by S. Omar Barker a couple of years ago and thought I’d re-post here:<\/p>\n

A Cowboy\u2019s Christmas Prayer<\/h3>\n

I ain\u2019t much good at prayin\u2019, and You may not know me, Lord-
\nI ain\u2019t much seen in churches where they preach Thy Holy Word,
\nBut you may have observed me out here on the lonely plains,
\nA-lookin\u2019 after cattle, feelin\u2019 thankful when it rains,
\nAdmirin\u2019 Thy great handiwork, the miracle of grass,
\nAware of Thy kind spirit in the way it comes to pass
\nThat hired men on horseback and the livestock we tend
\nCan look up at the stars at night and know we\u2019ve got a friend.<\/p>\n

So here\u2019s ol\u2019 Christmas comin\u2019 on, remindin\u2019 us again
\nOf Him whose coming brought good will into the hearts of men.
\nA cowboy ain\u2019t no preacher, Lord, but if You\u2019ll hear my prayer,
\nI\u2019ll ask as good as we have got for all men everywhere.
\nDon\u2019t let no hearts be bitter, Lord.
\nDon\u2019t let no child be cold.
\nMake easy beds for them that\u2019s sick and them that\u2019s weak and old.
\nLet kindness bless the trail we ride, no matter what we\u2019re after,
\nAnd sorter keep us on Your side, in tears as well as laughter.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve seen ol\u2019 cows a-starvin, and it ain\u2019t no happy sight:
\nPlease don\u2019t leave no one hungry, Lord, on thy good Christmas night-
\nNo man, no child, no woman, and no critter on four feet-
\nI\u2019ll aim to do my best to help You find \u2018em chuck to eat.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m just a sinful cowpoke, Lord-ain\u2019t got no business prayin\u2019-
\nBut still I hope You\u2019ll ketch a word or two of what I\u2019m sayin\u2019:
\nWe speak of Merry Christmas, Lord-I reckon you\u2019ll agree
\nThere ain\u2019t no Merry Christmas for nobody that ain\u2019t free.
\nSo one thing more I\u2019ll ask You, Lord: Just help us what you can
\nTo save some seeds of freedom for the future sons of man.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
\n– Ephesians 1:2<\/em><\/p>\n

I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and a Joyous New Year and each of you is blessed with every joy during this glorious season.<\/p>\n

To every Soldier, Sailor, Airmen and Marine at home and abroad\u2026 Merry Christmas, Thank You, and may God Bless you and keep safe.<\/p>\n
