{"id":2935,"date":"2009-11-04T19:56:09","date_gmt":"2009-11-05T00:56:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jasetaro.com\/blog\/?p=2935"},"modified":"2009-11-04T19:56:09","modified_gmt":"2009-11-05T00:56:09","slug":"john-boehner-ny-gop-ignored-warnings-from-nrcc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jasetaro.com\/blog\/2009\/11\/04\/john-boehner-ny-gop-ignored-warnings-from-nrcc\/","title":{"rendered":"John Boehner: NY GOP Ignored Warnings From NRCC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have slight different take on this story than <a href=\"http:\/\/michellemalkin.com\/2009\/11\/04\/making-sure-the-message-sticks-more-rejected-rnc-forms\/\" target=\"_blank\">Michelle Malkin<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.riehlworldview.com\/carnivorous_conservative\/2009\/11\/ny-23-dc-gop-ducks-and-covers.html\" target=\"_blank\">Dan Riehl<\/a> do&#8230; It&#8217;s not that I disagree they both raise very valid points It&#8217;s just that think I there&#8217;s a larger issue here than the Beltway GOP racing to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/opinion\/blogs\/beltway-confidential\/Boehner-says-NY-GOP-ignored-warnings-from-NRCC-69080912.html\" target=\"_blank\">cover their, um, assets<\/a> (emphasis mine):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>At a meeting of Washington conservatives this morning, House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, expressed pride over GOP success in last night&#8217;s election. But questions about NY-23 remain &#8212; so I asked him whether there was an effort to get New York Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava, the GOP nominee in that race, to endorse Conservative Party nominee Doug Hoffman.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There was a huge effort,&#8221; he replied.<\/p>\n<p>When asked about rumors that the New York Republican Party picked Scozzafava because of the advice of Washington insiders who felt she would be a more electable candidate, Boehner rolled his eyes. &#8220;We told them to hold off on a decision, to work with us, but they went ahead and did it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>So if she was a rotten egg, why spend money? &#8220;<strong>All the money spent on that race was anti-Owens money, not pro-Scozzafava money.<\/strong>&#8220;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Well that&#8217;s bullshit, the NRCC did run web ads attacking Doug Hoffman:<\/p>\n<p><object id=\"mediumFlashEmbedded\" classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" width=\"305\" height=\"275\" codebase=\"http:\/\/download.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0\"><param name=\"name\" value=\"undefined\" \/><param name=\"bgcolor\" value=\"#000000\" \/><param name=\"flashvars\" value=\"playerId=011008&amp;playerTemplateId=fncLargePlayer&amp;categoryTitle=&amp;referralObject=11014337&amp;referralPlaylistId=playlist\" \/><param name=\"src\" value=\"http:\/\/foxnews1.a.mms.mavenapps.net\/mms\/rt\/1\/site\/foxnews1-foxnews-pub01-live\/current\/largeplayer011008\/fncLargePlayer\/client\/embedded\/embedded.swf\" \/><param name=\"wmode\" value=\"false\" \/><param name=\"allowfullscreen\" value=\"true\" \/><param name=\"quality\" value=\"high\" \/><\/object><\/p>\n<p>This we&#8217;re I differ from Michelle and Dan, I&#8217;m willing, for the sake of argument, to take Boehner&#8217;s first statement at face value&#8230; When you combine Boehner&#8217;s remarks with Pete Sessions&#8217; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/blogs\/scorecard\/1109\/NRCC_chair_Sessions_critiques_NY_GOP.html\" target=\"_blank\">statement<\/a> on NY-23:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;After two special elections in New York, there is no doubt in my mind that the candidate selection process lacks openness and transparency and should be changed to a primary system so voters can have a say in who their respective parties nominate.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Sessions hits the nail on the head, we&#8217;ve now been through two winnable special elections in New York that the state GOP has fumbled badly&#8230; That&#8217;s what we need to be focused on here.
