{"id":2602,"date":"2009-08-13T16:19:13","date_gmt":"2009-08-13T20:19:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jasetaro.com\/blog\/?p=2602"},"modified":"2009-08-13T16:19:13","modified_gmt":"2009-08-13T20:19:13","slug":"retail-sales-fall-jobless-claims-and-foreclosures-rise-in-july","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jasetaro.com\/blog\/2009\/08\/13\/retail-sales-fall-jobless-claims-and-foreclosures-rise-in-july\/","title":{"rendered":"Retail Sales Fall, Jobless Claims and Foreclosures Rise In July"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Recovery, what recovery???<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s no good news in the economic data <a href=\"http:\/\/www.examiner.com\/a-2166741~Retail_sales_dip_unexpectedly__jobless_claims_rise.html\" target=\"_blank\">released today<\/a>&#8230; If President Obama and the Democrats in Congress where hoping improving economic indicators would help rescue their health care reform plans there out of luck.<\/p>\n<p>Retail Sales fell 0.1 percent last month, while new jobless claims increased to a seasonally adjusted 558,000, from 554,000 the previous week and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.examiner.com\/a-2166068~Foreclosures_rise_7_percent_in_July_from_June.html\" target=\"_blank\">foreclosures rose 7 percent<\/a> in July:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Retail sales disappointed in July and the number of newly laid-off workers filing claims for unemployment benefits rose unexpectedly last week. The latest government reports reinforced concerns about how quickly consumers will be able to contribute to a broad economic recovery.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There is really no positive spin to put on these numbers,&#8221; Jennifer Lee, an economist with BMO Capital Markets, wrote in a research note. &#8220;The U.S. consumer remains very weak. The jobs situation, while slowly improving, is still dismal.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Commerce Department said Thursday that retail sales fell 0.1 percent last month. Economists had expected a gain of 0.7 percent.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB125014420293928457.html\" target=\"_blank\">France and Germany<\/a> have both shown GDP growth in second quarter while the US economy declined an additional 1% in the same period.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t see a lot of positive signs for the economy horizon, frankly, I think Ed Morrissey&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/hotair.com\/archives\/2009\/08\/13\/jobless-claims-jump-retail-sales-fall\/\" target=\"_blank\">right<\/a>, the radical policy agenda being pushed\u00a0 by the Obama administration and Democrats in Congress is keeping a lot of capital sidelines.
