{"id":1576,"date":"2009-02-26T15:32:43","date_gmt":"2009-02-26T20:32:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jasetaro.com\/blog\/?p=1576"},"modified":"2010-09-03T16:37:16","modified_gmt":"2010-09-03T20:37:16","slug":"boehner-era-of-big-government-is-back","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jasetaro.com\/blog\/2009\/02\/26\/boehner-era-of-big-government-is-back\/","title":{"rendered":"Boehner: &#8216;Era of Big Government&#8217; Is Back"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From <a href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/leading-the-news\/boehner-era-of-big-government-is-back-2009-02-25.html\" target=\"_blank\">The Hill<\/a> (emphasis mine):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) declared a return to \u201cthe era of big government\u201d the day after President Obama\u2019s first formal address to Congress.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cFrom everything I\u2019ve seen, it looks like the era of big government spending is back,<\/strong>\u201d he told reporters at a lunch convened by the Christian Science Monitor. \u201cMy question to my Democratic friends is how are you going to pay for it?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The top Republican leader in the House praised President Obama for making a \u201ccompelling\u201d case that the nation can overcome its economic challenges and pledged to work with him when he reaches across the aisle.<\/p>\n<p>He later clarified that Republicans will work with Obama on areas of agreement but would maintain their ideological differences and fight for them. Despite several personal entreaties from Obama to support the stimulus bill, House Republicans illustrated their solid opposition when not one Republican crossed the aisle to support it last week.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Heh, with all due respect to Congressman Boehner the era of big government spending never left&#8230; Or are you forgetting all the big government spending you folks did during the Bush years?<\/p>\n<p>You folks presided over one of the largest increases in government spending and regulation in American history during the Bush years.
