{"id":1478,"date":"2009-02-12T14:30:40","date_gmt":"2009-02-12T19:30:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jasetaro.com\/blog\/?p=1478"},"modified":"2009-02-12T14:31:14","modified_gmt":"2009-02-12T19:31:14","slug":"what-open-borders-has-wrought","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jasetaro.com\/blog\/2009\/02\/12\/what-open-borders-has-wrought\/","title":{"rendered":"What Open Borders Has Wrought"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ABC News ran a story last night on the growing problem of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abcnews.go.com\/Blotter\/story?id=6848672&amp;page=1\" target=\"_blank\">kidnapping in Phoenix, Arizona<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><object width=\"425\" height=\"344\" data=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/-P1dmnjAEPA&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\"><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\" \/><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\" \/><param name=\"src\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/-P1dmnjAEPA&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1\" \/><param name=\"allowfullscreen\" value=\"true\" \/><\/object><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In what officials caution is now a dangerous and even deadly crime wave, Phoenix, Arizona has become the kidnapping capital of America, with more incidents than any other city in the world outside of Mexico City and over 370 cases last year alone. But local authorities say Washington, DC is too obsessed with al Qaeda terrorists to care about what is happening in their own backyard right now.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re in the eye of the storm,\u201d Phoenix Police Chief Andy Anderson told ABC News of the violent crimes and ruthless tactics spurred by Mexico\u2019s drug cartels that have expanded business across the border. \u201cIf it doesn\u2019t stop here, if we\u2019re not able to fix it here and get it turned around, it will go across the nation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>California Attorney General Jerry Brown warned that as the U.S. government focuses so intently on Islamic extremist groups, other types of terrorists \u2014 those involved with the same kidnappings, extortion and drug cartels that are sweeping Phoenix \u2014 are overlooked.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This is what open borders has wrought, it&#8217;s high time our government stops ignoring the problems along the southern border and starts taking steps to restrict the access Mexican drug cartels have to American territory.<\/p>\n<p>If the Congress wants to spend money on infrastructure projects than how about actually building the double-layer border fence they approved in 2006. To date only 32 miles of that fence has been built in part because Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R.-Texas) slipped an amendment that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnsnews.com\/public\/content\/article.aspx?RsrcID=43422\" target=\"_blank\">watered down the original legislation<\/a> into an omnibus appropriations bill Congress passed on December 18, 2007.<\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"http:\/\/hotair.com\/archives\/2009\/02\/12\/mexican-drug-cartels-make-phoenix-2-in-world-for-kidnappings\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ed Morrissey notes<\/a> &#8220;The primary responsibility of the federal government is to protect the nation from outside attack \u2014 and if what ABC reports is accurate, it\u2019s failing miserably in Phoenix.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ABC News ran a story last night on the growing problem of kidnapping in Phoenix, Arizona.
