{"id":1454,"date":"2009-02-03T22:17:58","date_gmt":"2009-02-04T03:17:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jasetaro.com\/blog\/?p=1454"},"modified":"2009-02-03T22:17:58","modified_gmt":"2009-02-04T03:17:58","slug":"daschle-withdraws-nomination","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jasetaro.com\/blog\/2009\/02\/03\/daschle-withdraws-nomination\/","title":{"rendered":"Daschle Withdraws Nomination"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former Senator Tom Daschle has with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnsnews.com\/public\/content\/article.aspx?RsrcID=42938\" target=\"_blank\">withdrawn<\/a> his name from to be Barack Obama&#8217;s secretary of Health and Human Services.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Former Democratic Senate leader Tom Daschle \u00a0withdrew his name from nomination to be President Barack Obama&#8217;s secretary of Health and Human Services today.<\/p>\n<p>The action occurs after revelations that Daschle failed to pay $128,000 in taxes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dIf 30 years of exposure to the challenge inherent in our system has taught me anything, it has taught me that this work will require a leader who can operate with the full faith of Congress and the American people, and without distraction,&#8221; Daschle said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Right now, I am not that leader and will not be a distractuon,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Obama said Daschle&#8217;s mistake should not diminish his record of public service.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>No surprise really with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2009\/02\/03\/opinion\/03tue1.html?_r=2&amp;partner=rss&amp;emc=rss\" target=\"_blank\">New York Times<\/a> calling for his withdrawal and support reportedly <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mcclatchydc.com\/251\/story\/61383.html\" target=\"_blank\">fading<\/a> in the senate.<\/p>\n<p>On a related note Nancy Killefer, Pres. Obama&#8217;s nominee to be the government&#8217;s Chief Performance Officer has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/article.php?id=D96463C80&amp;show_article=1\" target=\"_blank\">withdrawn her name from consideration<\/a>. Killefer reportedly failed to pay employment taxes on household help for half a year.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Nancy Killefer, who failed for a year and a half to pay employment taxes on household help, has withdrawn her candidacy to be the first chief performance officer for the federal government, the White House said Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Killefer was the second major Obama administration nominee to withdraw and the third to have tax problems complicate their nomination after President Barack Obama announced their selection.<\/p>\n<p>The White House said Obama had accepted Killefer\u2019s decision and that the 55-year-old executive with consulting giant McKinsey &amp; Co., would explain her reasons for pulling out later Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>When her selection was announced by Obama on Jan. 7, The Associated Press disclosed that in 2005 the District of Columbia government had filed a $946.69 tax lien on her home for failure to pay unemployment compensation tax on household help.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>What the hell is going on here???
