So far I’ve resisted the urge to comment on Israel’s ongoing operations against Hamas… I just don’t see any value in playing armchair general or armchair diplomat.This morning though I picked up my local paper and read this bit of idiocy<\/a> in the Letters to the Editor:<\/p>\n

The Israeli attack on the Gaza Ghetto, much like the Nazi attack on the Warsaw Ghetto, is in the words of Israeli leaders “the beginning” and is intended “to send Gaza back decades.”So far, more than 300 have been killed and more than 1,000 injured (200 of those critically), 35 percent women, children and elderly, along with many homes, police stations and civil society buildings destroyed.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

According to the Al Mezan Center for Human Rights, most Gaza Ghetto victims, like Warsaw Ghetto victims, are civilians.<\/p>\n

And just like the Nazis who tormented them, the Israeli government blames the victims.<\/p>\n

Enough! Our United States government must stop the Israeli tail from always wagging the American dog and pull the leash once and for all on Israel.<\/p>\n

After all, with spying AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee) friends like that, who needs enemies?<\/p>\n

I have a question for Mr. Sullivan and others on the left… What exactly would you have Israel do? Lets remember a few things:<\/p>\n

  1. Israel has an absolute moral right to defend its citizens.<\/li>\n
  2. Hamas has fired thousands of rockets and mortars into Israel from Gaza over the last several years.<\/li>\n
  3. Hamas has never acknowledged Israel’s right to exist. In fact Hamas still seeks Israel’s destruction<\/a>.<\/li>\n
  4. Hamas deliberately stores weapons in civilian areas and launches its rocket and mortar attacks from civilian areas.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Civilian casualties are an unfortunate reality of war, my heart goes out to the citizens of Gaza… If we’re going to place blame place it where it belongs – on Hamas. Israel has bent over backwards to meet the demands of the international community in the “peace process” and made concession after concession but Hamas has acted in bad faith every step of the way. Hamas wanted this war and now they’re going to have to face the consequences. Mr. Sullivan is right about one thing the citizens of Gaza are the victims they’re caught in the cross fire between the terrorists of Hamas and the state of Israel which is rightfully defending its citizens.<\/p>\n

    As Alan Dershowitz notes in an Op Ed<\/a> in today’s Wall Street Journal:<\/p>\n

    Until the world recognizes that Hamas is committing three war crimes — targeting Israeli civilians, using Palestinian civilians as human shields, and seeking the destruction of a member state of the United Nations — and that Israel is acting in self-defense and out of military necessity, the conflict will continue.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
