{"id":101,"date":"2008-05-22T17:26:38","date_gmt":"2008-05-22T21:26:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jasetaro.com\/blog\/?p=101"},"modified":"2008-05-23T19:05:07","modified_gmt":"2008-05-23T23:05:07","slug":"ten-things","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jasetaro.com\/blog\/2008\/05\/22\/ten-things\/","title":{"rendered":"Ten Things&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019ve been thinking about what I\u2019d like a candidate for office this year to stand for\u2026 Here\u2019s my list:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>A strong dollar \u2013 Over the last decade the dollar has fallen in value and we\u2019re paying for it in the form of higher prices for food, oil and gas among other things. Strengthening the   dollar will help will bring down the price of gas and other commodities.<\/li>\n<li>Tax cuts \u2013 Specifically make George W. Bush\u2019s marginal rate reductions permanent, reduce the capital gains tax rate, eliminate the \u201cdeath tax\u201d and cut the corporate tax rate from the current 35 percent to 25 percent.<\/li>\n<li>Fiscal responsibility \u2013 We are not under-taxed, the government spends too much. Want my vote? End earmarks and balance the budget!<\/li>\n<li>A strong national defense. \u2013 Fight for the NSA surveillance program, protect telecom companies from frivolous lawsuits, preserve the PATRIOT act, keep the Guantanamo Bay detention center open, fight to win the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Make sure that our veterans can live out their lives in dignity.<\/li>\n<li>Secure borders \u2013 This is a very simple thing&#8230; Any nation that fails to defend its borders will eventually cease to be a sovereign nation. It\u2019s that simple folks.<\/li>\n<li>Increased domestic energy production \u2013 End or at least ease the restrictions on domestic oil and natural gas drilling.<\/li>\n<li>Free Market health care solutions \u2013 Just say no to government controlled nationalized health care. We have to best health care system in the world\u2026 Yes there are problems, yes the costs spiraling upwards but nationalized health care isn\u2019t the answer. Free market ideas like health savings accounts, tax breaks for small business owners, and tort reform are better ideas.<\/li>\n<li>A tuition tax credit for families who chose to send their children to private or parochial schools. \u2013 Vouchers are a nonstarter with me but allowing parents to deduct private or parochial school tuition from their taxes makes sense.<\/li>\n<li>Social Security and Medicare reform.<\/li>\n<li>The appointment of judges who recognize that their job is to interpret the Constitution, NOT legislate from the bench.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019ve been thinking about what I\u2019d like a candidate for office this year to stand for\u2026 Here\u2019s my list: A strong dollar \u2013 Over the last decade the dollar has fallen in value and we\u2019re paying for it in the form of higher prices for food, oil and gas among other things.
